In today's Internet, web browsers (like Chrome, Safari or Firefox) store information about websites within it's memory (aka browser cache) to help load websites faster.
So when an image is updated on your website and the same filename is used, you might see the old version because the image data is stored within your browser cache. In order to see the new version of the photo you’ll need to clear your browser's cache. The directions for this will vary depending on the browser you are using.
Here are directions for the 3 most popular browsers.
Google Chrome
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More.
- Click More tools. Clear browsing data.
- At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
- Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
- Click Clear data.
Safari
- Click on the Safari drop-down menu and select Preferences.
- Click the Advanced tab. Select the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox and close the preferences window.
- Select the Develop drop-down menu. Click Empty Cache.
- Note: You may want to also clear your browser history.
Firefox
- With Firefox open, click the hamburger menu in the top right and select Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Cookies & Site Data section and click Clear Data.
- Uncheck the box for Cookies and Site Data and click Clear.
